TIBETAN PRAYER FLAGS |
 |
Tibetan Prayer Flags can be seen throughout the world, but especially in Tibet and the Himalayas. Prayer flags are meant to be hung anywhere the wind can pass through them, spreading their mantras and blessings. Over time, Tibetan prayer flags deteriorate from the wind and other elements. Out of respect and tradition, one may burn them and replace the old flags or one can simply add new flags, creating a wonderful assortment of prayers and vibrant colors.
Tibetan Prayer Flags feature five colors. Each color symbolizes a different element and their order is strictly followed from left to right or top to bottom:
- Blue = sky
- White = clouds
- Red = sun/fire
- Green = vegetation/water
- Yellow = earth/soil
We carry "clothesline" Tibetan prayer flags which are suspended in a horizontal row of 5 or 25 flags, as well as vertical flags that are hung in a single strip on a pole or tree. While the wind horse pattern is the most common print for flags, we also carry flags with the image and mantra of several different deities.
