OM MANI PADME HUM |
 |
One of the most common mantras found in Tibetan Buddhism is Om Mani Padme Hum, sometimes Om Mani Padme Hung. This is the mantra of Chenrezig, the Buddha of Compassion. Saying or reading Om Mani Padme Hum is said to bring about Chenrezig's attention and blessings. The actual meaning of the mantra is not easily translated into other languages. Looking at the 6 syllables Om Mani Padme Hum literally means the purification of the six realms of existence in suffering. Om-purifies pride, Ma-purifies jealousy, Ni-purifies desire, pad-purifies ignorance, Me-purifies possessiveness, Hung-purifies hatred.
