Avalokitesvara or Chenrezik in Tibetan is the Buddha of Compassion. Next to the Buddha, Avalokitesvara is probably the best known Buddhist deity. In this form with 11 heads and a thousand arms and eyes, the all-pervading nature of compassion is emphasized. Each of the arms represent an active act of compassion while the eye that is in the center of the palm of each arm represents wisdom-insight.
